24 October 2005 – Road Trip
Woo hoo bus trip to Te Awamutu, even better early morning bus trip. That
camper better travel back ok…
Found the bus stop at Bombay, outside the "Vege Shack" which of course is
closed so doesn't really look like much of a bus stop. Old sign there for
Newmans but hey, no problem, surely there'll be a bus along that will stop and
pick us up as while the drive down wasn't a problem it'd be a pain having to
drive back in separate vehicles.
Of course the bus turned up just as we called Inter-City to see if one was
coming… It even stopped for us and had our names on the list of passengers so
we hopped aboard for our "Bus Trip".
Off to Hamilton where we changed drivers (but not bus) for the leg to Te Awamutu.
Funnily enough on the bus get to see a bit more scenery since not concentrating
on driving!
Managed to get to Te Awamutu without any troubles, well the bus driver should
know where to go anyway - he gets paid for this and probably does the trip
quite regularly. Got there just after 10am.
Met by Larry and back to his place to pick up BILITY.
Rex gives this sneaky look, pulls out his back pack, delves into it and
grabs - wait for it - Racing Rabbit. Racing Rabbit used to go on all the
rallies with Rex and is now going to come along on all of our trips. Go the
Rabbit.
Drove out to Colin (Andersons) place to at least meet him and his wife and ask
some questions about how the gas, water, shower, toilet etc. Those minor type
of questions like how does it all work? Of course Murphy is alive and well and
some random light on the dash came on about 15 minutes into the drive out to
where Colin lives (30 minutes from Te Awamutu itself). Pulled over but nothing
seemed to be leaking so continued to drive keeping an eye on the temperature
and any other gauge that could be seen. We did also ask about the other
randomly flashing red light above the interior light but they didn't know what
that was for either!
Then off for the road trip back to Auckland. Trip this time via main roads
"just in case".
So we tootled off down SH3 to Hamilton and then SH1 from there back to Auckland.
I was even allowed to drive! Woo hoo
Thought we'd stop at the same café for lunch as last time - ooops, bugger
closed, how rude of them. As there were people outside the café doing painting
type work we weren't going to stop! So we stopped at the River Haven Café in
Huntly. Well we won't do that again, plenty of parking though so not a problem
there. It doesn't even get a rating.
Hmmm, next leg Rex drove, just knew he wanted to see how BILITY went going up
the Bombay Hill and yes we did remember to stop so I could get the Carib to
drive back as really didn't want to leave that at the Bombay Service Centre.
BILITY (and the Carib) home safe and sound all in one piece. Even fits
down the drive way with only a tree tangle at the road side due to BILITY's
height. Can even turn BILITY around - well if there are no other cars parked
in the driveway and Jazz stays in one place…
