Trip down - coast road via Clevedon - Kawakawa Bay - Orere Point -
Matingarahi - Wharekawa - Whakatiwai - Kaiaua - Miranda.
Trip back - inland route (less winding bits) - back on to SH2 through
Mangatawhiri - SH1 at the Bombay turn off.
Swim at Miranda Hot Pools. Found that the holiday camp next door has its
own pool complex as well. Also saw a "POP" ("Park On Property") place on the
way down which could be good for future trips.
Then back up the road a bit to Kawakawa Bay for fish and chips. Hmm, while
sitting outside waiting for our order I look at this forest-green Chrysler
Voyager in the Carpark and think "that looks like Murray Haybittle's car and
would be about the right vintage". About 15 minutes later out walks June,
Brian, Katherine and Murray! Murray and June are over from Canada and were
meant to fly out today but didn't! Small world. Quick catch up with them
which was great.
By this time our order had appeared so we drove across the road to a beach
carpark and had dinner.
Bit cooler than last night and of course being on the other coast no sunset
but still another awesome picnic and great way to spend the evening.
hmmm, what some people camp in. This was the "tent" for two Dutch chicks…
We never did see them get in (or out) of their tent but figured it would have
been "interesting":
