OUR McPIKE FAMILY Including Monigatti, Moore and Haslip : John McPike John was born in 1798/99 in County Derry, Ireland. He was a sawyer and weaver. John enlisted in 1815 and was drafted to the 1st Foot Regiment. In April 1818 he enlisted in the 18th Royal Parish Regiment of Foot and was drafted for special training for Malta. He embarked to Malta on 24 August 1825 and was discharged in July 1825 at Corfu. He was discharged from the 18th Regiment on 11 October 1825 suffering from varicose veins of the leg. John married Mary DUNN in Belfast, Ireland around 1819. She was born in Ireland in 1798 and was the daughter of Thomas DUNN and Margaret CAMPBELL. John applied to be included in the Royal Fencibles for New Zealand and on 14 April 1847 John and Mary, together with sons James and Cornelius, daughter Mary Jane and three other children, embarked for New Zealand on the Fencible Ship "Ramillies", arriving in Auckland on 5 August 1847. The family settled in Onehunga and were involved in farming and pit sawing. In 1848 John donated to the Catholic Schoolhouse. In 1853 John obtained a De-pasturing Licence for Onehunga and during the 1860s he farmed in Little Muddy Creek north of Auckland. By the 1870s John and Mary had returned to Onehunga and John attended the St Mary of the Assumption Church. John died in Onehunga on 12 August 1874 aged 76 years. Mary died on 5 July 1875 aged 77 years. Children of John and Mary : 1.   John born in 1820 in Belfast, Ireland. John arrived in New Zealand with his family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847. He married Mary MASON.  Mary was born in 1820 in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland and died in 1908. Children of John and Mary included : Anna born 1843 in either Ireland or Glasgow and died in 1881.  She married Francis Jacob VEDDER around 1862 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. Francis was born in 1838 in Glentown, New York, United States of America.  Their children were - + Jacob John born 1863 in Onehunga, Auckland and died 1867. + Mary Ellen born 1865 in Onehunga, Auckland.  Mary married Joel FISHER.  He was born in 1864 and died in 1972.  Mary died in 1940. + Francis James born 1867 in Onehunga, Auckland.  Francis married Mary Ann WOODHAM.  She was born in 1868 and died in 1967.  Francis died in 1946. + Clark John born 1871 in Tapu, Thames Coast.  He married Mary SPENCER.  She was born in 1876 and died in 1966.  Clark died in 1949. John born around 1849 and died in 1911.  John married Mary DAVISON on 15 June 1870 in Thames, New Zealand.   Their children were - + Sarah Lavinia born 1871 in Thames.  She married Laurence GORDON in Auckland in 1900. + Francis John born 1873 in Thames.  Francis died on 8 January 1890 in Thames Hospital. + Robert James born 1875 in Thames.  He married Lillian Mary SHAW.  Their son George Murray was born on 3 May 1933 in Auckland and died on 28 March 1959. Robert died on 09 February 1935. + William Cornelius born 1875 in Thames.  He married Catherine YOUNG in August 1897.  William died on 4 July 1898 in Sydney, Australia. + Frederick Samuel born 25 June 1880 in Thames and died on 7 April 1960. + Ernest born 25 August 1882 in the Kauaeranga Valley, Thames.  Ernest married Margaret Walker McMILLAN.  She was born in 1894 and died in 1961.  Ernest died on 12 July 1943 and was buried at the Totara Soldiers Cemetery, Thames. + Agnes Mary Josephine born 3 October 1884 in Thames.  Agnes married Frederick LOWRIE.  She died on 12 July 1907. + Laura Annie born 22 April 1887 in Thames.  She married James HOGG.  James was born in 1886 in Scotland and died in 1921 in Taneatua, NZ.  He was buried in Thames.  Laura died on 21 January 1971. + David Henry born 1889 in Thames and died on 24 July 1961. + Leila Kathleen born 1894.  She married Llewellyn Dominic RICHARDS.  Leila died on 4 March 1970.  Llewellyn died in 1916.

Catherine born 1852.  Catherine married Walter SCOTT in Auckland, New Zealand on 30 March 1870.  Their son Thomas Caleb Wilson SCOTT was born on 24 June 1870 in Tapu, Thames and died on 19 December 1950 in Epsom, Auckland.  Thomas married married Clara LIDGARD on 15 February 1897.  Clara was born on 31 October 1875 in Waitangirua and was the daughter of Joseph LIDGARD and Betsy Logan SANDES.  Clara died on 11 April 1955 in Ellerslie, Auckland.   Cornelius baptized 4 December 1854 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. He married Martha Ann DONNELLY.  Martha was born in 1861 in Parnell, Auckland and died in 1898.  Cornelius died in 1928.  Their children were - + William Charles born 1882 in Thames and died in 1910. + Cornelius James born 1884 in Parawai, Thames and died in 1962. + Sarah Jane born 1886 in Parawai, Thames.  Sarah married Arthur Reginald CHOAT.  He was born in 1883 and died in 1975.  Sarah died in 1955. + Martha Ursula born 1889 in Parawai, Thames and died in 1965. + Samual born 1892 in Parawai, Thames.  He married Lucina Follett CLARKE.  She was born in 1897 in Auckland and died in 1985.  Samual died in1945. + Walter born in 1892 in Parawai, Thames and also died in 1892. + George Joseph born in 1894 in Parawai, Thames.  He married Ethel Irene MASON.  She was born in 1913 in Hamilton and died in 1987.   George died in 1963.

Samuel baptized 2 December 1856 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church and died 20 July 1864 in Onehunga of scarlet fever. Mary Jane baptized 4 May 1860 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church and died in 1933.  Mary married Thomas (George) BENNETT.  He was born in 1860 in Auckland, New Zealand and died in 1951.   Their children were - + Thomas born 1884 and died 1951. + Mabel born 1886 who married Walter REID. + Leonard born 1889 in Thames, New Zealand.  He married Jewel Fanny CORRIN.  Leonard died in 1934. + Hilda born 1891 who married Norman Rufus AUSTIN.  Hilda died in 1966.  Norman also died in 1966. + Gordon born 1894. + Oliver Cromwell born 1897 and died 1973.   2.   Cornelius born about 1826 in Belfast, Ireland. He died of asthma on 19 June 1851 aged 25 years. His death was recorded by his brother-in-law Reuben Haslip. 3.   James born 12 December 1828 in Belfast, Ireland and died on 11 March 1905.  John arrived in New Zealand with his family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847. He married Catherine BROWN in 1854 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. Catherine was born around 1840 in Dublin, Ireland and had arrived in New Zealand around 1852 possibly on the "Gipsy". Catherine died on 20 September 1909.  Both James and Catherine were buried at Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga.   Children of James and Catherine included - James William born 1 April 1855 in Auckland and was baptized at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church.  He married Alice PARTRIDGE.   Alice was born in 1872 at Port Albert, North Auckland and died on 21 January 1938.  James died on 21 November 1918.  They were both buried at Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga, Auckland.   Their children were -     + James William born 1895 at Port Albert, North Auckland.  He married Audrey SIMPSON on 23 December 1919 at Onehunga, Auckland.  She was born in 1897.  James died in 1952.  + Rose Eileen born 1898 in Onehunga, Auckland.  She married Charles PASCOE.  Rose died in 1935. + Frank Alexander Walter born 1902 and died 1940 in Auckland. + Josephine  + Mabee Lucy born 1907 and died 1909.

Thomas born 25 January 1857 in Auckland and was baptized at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. He married Lydia Ann HOLT.  She was born in 1864 in Auckland and died on 27 July 1938 in Auckland.  Thomas died 9 September 1932.  Their children were - + Lydia Mary born 1882 who married George ISHERWOOD. + Veronica Kathleen ( Kate ) born 1884 who married Robert BARLOW. + Violet ( Bobby ) born 1886 in Onehunga, Auckland who married Herbert Sydney LANE.  Violet died in 1984 and Herbert died in 1927. + Hilda Daisy born 1889 in Waiorongomai.  She married George James ASHBY.  George was born in 1855.  Hilda died in 1961. + John Robert born 1891 in Onehunga, Auckland and died on 6 June 1915 at Auckland Hospital of Enteric fever. + Leslie James born 18 November 1893 in Onehunga, Auckland and died 10 March 1967.   Leslie married Margaret Susan MORRIS on 25 November 1914.    Margaret was born in 1894 and died on 7 October 1919.  Their son John Robert Leslie was born in September 1915 and died in February 1920. On 20 July 1927 Leslie married Catherine Cameron MORRISON.  She was born 7 September 1906 and died 24 December 1993.  Their children included Ivy Raye and Thomas Andrew. Leslie died on 10 March 1967 at Auckland.  + Muriel Rose born 1896 in Onehunga, Auckland.  Muriel married Henry Herbert COOPER.  Henry was born in 1891.  Muriel died in 1986. + Ivy Isobel born 1898 in Onehunga, Auckland.  She married William Blaikie DUNCAN who was born in Dunedin, Otago in 1899 and died in 1974.  Ivy died in 1957. + Corrina born 1903 who married John ADAMS.  She died in 1980.

Henry baptized 9 April 1859 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. He died on 21 October 1942 and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery. Edward baptized in 1862 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church.  Edward married Alicia WILLIAMSON.  She was born in 1862 in Newry, Ireland.  Edward died in 1926 and Alicia died in 1945.   Their children were - + Mary Kathleen born 22 May 1888 at Mangere Bridge, Auckland.  She married Frederick Louis JOHANNSON on 30 December 1914.  Mary died on 13 January 1977. + Ethel Alicia born 1890 who married Henry Albert BRUMBY.  Henry was born in 1891 and died in 1977.  Ethel died in 1949.   + Hazel Williamson born 1892 who married Frederick William FRANKLIN.  Frederick was born in 1898 and died in 1962.  Hazel died in 1983. + Alfred James born 1894 and died 1980. + Richard Francis born 1896 and died 1984.

Frederick born 21 March 1864 and was baptized at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church.  Frederick died in 1920. William Daniel baptized on 25 October 1866. He died after a long illness on 4 November 1899 aged 33 years and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery in Onehunga . Elizabeth Ann baptized 12 December 1868 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church.  She married Edward Broad PICKNELL. Elizabeth died in 1922 and Edward died in 1932. Their children were - + Edward James born 1891 who married Ivy Pearl ADDISON.  Ivy was born in 1897 and died in 1970.  Edward died in 1961. + Beatrice Ellen born 1893 who married Arthur MOTT. + Gladys Beryl Kate born 1895 who married William Francis PETFORD.  William died in 1965.   + George William born 1898 who married Theresa Xavier CROPP.  George died in 1962. + Richard Albert Victor born 1900 who married Ethel May WARRINGTON.  Richard died in 1986. + Doris Ellen born 1902 who married Albert Edward ALEXANDER.  Doris died in 1961 and Albert died in 1985. + Lily Jan born 1903 who married Douglas Edward LAING.  Lily died in 1948. + Ivy Kathleen born 1907 who married Frank Leslie PERKS.  Frank was born in 1909 in North Auckland and died in 1982.  Ivy died in 1992. Cecilia Ann baptized 17 December 1870 in Auckland. Richard John baptized 24 March 1872 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. He married Mary Polly ASPIN on 7 January 1897 in Onehunga, Auckland.  Mary was born in 1873 in North Warrego, Queensland, Australia and died in 1962.   Richard died in 1930.   Their children were - + George born 1897 at Orua Bay, Waiuku, South Auckland.   George married Amy Agnes Mary WARD.  She was born in 1904 at Gore, Southland and died in 1972.  George died in 1959. + William born 1899 in Waiuku, South Auckland.  He married Mary Margaret HUDSON.  She was born in 1907.  William died in 1956. + Richard James born 26 February 1901 in Waiuku, South Auckland.  Richard married Phyllis Irene HYLAND.  She was born in 1919 in Waiuku and died in 1991.  Richard died in 1957. + Mary Emma born 1903 at Orua Bay, Waiuku, South Auckland and died in 1968. + David Daniel born 1905 at Orua Bay, Waiuku, South Auckland and died in 1969. + Angus Vincent born 1907 at Orua Bay, Waiuku, South Auckland.   He married Helena Elsie Ida CHALKE.  She was born in 1912 and died in 1990.  Angus died in 1996. + Catherine Margaret born 1910 in Pollock, South Auckland.  She married Arthur Victor WATERS.  He was born in 1901 in Hunterville and died in 1968. + Elizabeth Ann born 1914 in Pollock, South Auckland.  She married Harold Stansel HYLAND. Elizabeth died in 1986. + Raymond Aspin born 9 February 1917 in Pollock, South Auckland.  He married Noeleen MORRISON.  Raymond died in November 1963.

George was baptized 22 June 1873 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. He married Kate LIDGARD on 21 August 1902 in Thames.  Kate was born on 21 November 1877 in Thames, the daughter of Joseph LIDGARD and Betsy Logan SANDES. George died on 19 June 1953 aged 80 years and Kate died on 25 February 1966 aged 88 years. They were both buried at Waikaraka Cemetery in Onehunga. Their children were -    + Marjorie Eunice born 11 August 1903.  She married Leslie Kingsford HAMMOND in 1926.  Leslie died in 1965.  Marjorie died in 1996. + George William Eric born 1906 who married Joan Esmay McDONALD.  Joan was born in 1916 and died in 1964. + Kathleen Beulah born 15 June 1907 who married James LANDER in 1939. + Rona Dulcibel born 9 December 1909.  Rona married James Ford CARNEGIE in 1934.  She married Allan CULPITT on 24 September 1966.  Alan was born in 1899. + Una Evelyn Joyce born 14 November who married Edward TYNE.  Edward was born in 1910 and died in 1966.

Charles baptized 12 December 1875 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church and died in 1920.  Charles married Ethel VERCOE. She was born in 1877.  Their daughter  Ruth Ethel was born in 1907 and married Mervyn Frederick CAIE. Walter Daniel baptized 17 February 1878 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church who married Isabella Ellen Bella Monigatti.  Isabella was born in 1890 and was the daughter of John Thomas MONIGATTI and Isabella Ellen MOORE.   Walter died on 27 October 1957 and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery.  Isabella died in 1966.    Their children were -  + Cecil William Tell born 1906 in Buller, West Coast.  He married Dorothy Amelia HATCH.  She was born in 1904 in Taylorville. + Gwendolyn Ariel Mavis born 1907 in Westport.  She married Robert Douglas HENSON.  Robert was born in 1905 and died in 1984. + Jacqualine Isobella Catherine born 1911.  She married Walter William BUBLITZ.  He was born in 1910 and died in 1977.   + Walter Daniel James born 1914.  He married Joan Norma TYLER.  Joan was born in 1919 in Torquay, Cornwall, England.   Walter died in 1988. + Isabelle Mae born 1929.  She married Raymond Arnold LANDERS.  He was born in 1926.

Cornelius baptized 31 October 1880 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church and died in 1946.  He married Charlotte BISHOP who died in 1920.  Their son  Cornelius Fraser was born in 1901 and married Delia Agnes Sarah SMITH. Delia was born in 1898 and died in 1971. Isabella Ellen born about 1888.  Isabella died on 18 September 1966 and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga.   4.   Mary Jane born in Belfast, Ireland in 1830. She arrived in New Zealand with her family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847.  Mary died in 1848. 5.   Margaret born in Belfast, Ireland in 1832. She arrived in New Zealand with her family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847. Margaret married Reuben HASLIP on 19 February 1849 in Auckland.  She died on 18 May 1903 and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga. 6.   Catherine was born in 1835 in Belfast, Ireland and died in 1911.  She arrived in New Zealand with her family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847.  Catherine married William BRIMNER on 17 November 1851 at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. The witnesses were Reuben HASLIP and Mrs MEAD (William's sister). William was born around 1830 and possibly arrived in New Zealand on the "Jane Gifford" on 9 October 1842.  He died in 1874.  Children of William and Catherine were - Alexander Spencer born 1853 who married Elizabeth MACKIE. Isabella Josephine born 1855 in Onehunga, Auckland and died in 1930. William born 1856 in Onehunga, Auckland.  John born 1858 in Onehunga, Auckland.  He married Agnes (surname unknown) who died in 1933. Catherine born 1859 in Onehunga, Auckland who married John CHAFFE. Mary Jane born 1862. James born 1864 and died in 1864. Ellen Mary born 1864 in Onehunga, Auckland. George Henry born 1866 in Onehunga, Auckland and died in 1867. Thomas born 1868 in Onehunga, Auckland. Charles born 1869. Martha born 1872 in Auckland. In 1875 Catherine married William WEBBER at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. They had one child, Mary Grace, who was born in 1877.  She married Patrick CAMPBELL.  Patrick was born in 1872 in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.   7.   Ellen was born 23 August 1836 in Belfast, Ireland and died on 6 April 1888 in Westport, New Zealand.   She arrived in New Zealand with her family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847.  On 25 April 1853 Ellen married Charles Moore at Onehunga Roman Catholic Church. Charles was born in 1833 in Sydney, Australia and died in 1865.  For more information about Charles Moore and his family see the link at the bottom of this page. Charles died in 1865 and Ellen later married David REVE.  He was born in 1837 in Suffolk, England. Children of Charles and Ellen were Sarah born 1873, Charlotte born 1875 and Joseph born 1877. Ellen died on 6 April 1888 in Westport, New Zealand.  David died in 1898.

 

Margaret McPike Margaret was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1832 and arrived in New Zealand with her family on the "Ramillies" in August 1847. She married Reuben Haslip at St Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Auckland on 19 February 1849. Reuben and Margaret settled in Onehunga and their children included Mary Ann born 1849, Joseph born 1851, Ellen born about 1852, Caroline born 1855, Margaret born 1855, Susan Anne born about 1857, Theresa born about 1859, William Henry born 1861, John Samuel born about 1863, Elizabeth Josephine born about 1866 and Charlotte Ann born 1870. Margaret died on 18 May 1903 and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery in Onehunga, Auckland.  Reuben died in 1887.
