But, I do feel as though everything was answered well enough, and even the things that were hinted at were still straightforward enough that you still knew what was being described, what was going on, with those characters.

He soon learns that things in this new world are not much like his own, and that he will have to complete a dangerous quest to be able to help his sister and the new friends he has made along the way. Despite the fact that it hits pretty much the whole checklist of standard high fantasy plot devices , it still manages to make them all work in original ways and create a world that seems a lot bigger than what we get to see of it. I picked it up at the library because I was looking for more Nix after finishing the Old Kingdom trilogy. They’re younger than most kids in young adult novels are, not even quite 12 yet it seems. The villain of the piece is the Ragwitch, a horrible creature who once devastated an entire kingdom before being forced out of The Ragwitch is the oldest of Garth Nix’s books that I have read to-date. He was always complaining, and I was hoping to see that he grew from his complainyness and became stronger as the story went on, but that didn’t seem to happe I just expected more from Garth Nix, because I love his Abhorsen trilogy, and have been enjoying reading Shade’s Children.

With Julia, I liked that we got to see that even though she was the one that Paul thought was the fearless adventurer who always knew what to do They did, and there was enough emotion there in the saying goodbye that I had tears in my eyes.

The next morning, Paul hears someone moving around, and filn the sound out to find his sister, possessed by the doll, building a strange blue fire on top of the midden. You may not reread it, but it’s worth reading once. They’re young and naive and used to the comforts of home, taken out of their elements and dropped into new and impossible situations in a strange world without any of the conveniences they’re used to.
The Ragwitch th essentially a pretty classic fantasy quest, with horrible creatures, tasks that must be completed just because, and a big bad evil. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.
